Our current project:
Planting along Richardson Creek
Our non-profit is dedicated to restoring the health of local waterways, with an initial focus on Richardson Creek in the Woods Creek watershed. Our volunteers have already planted over 600 native trees, but this is just the beginning of our mission to reforest the streams vital to our ecosystem.
We are seeking to partner with landowners whose properties include salmon-bearing streams. If you are interested in enhancing your land and contributing to the recovery of our local ecosystem, we would be honored to speak with you about a fully-funded restoration project.
Our Restoration Strategy
• Clear Invasive Plants: We begin by targeting and removing harmful, non-native species like Himalayan blackberry and reed canarygrass that choke out the native ecosystem.
• Establish a Native Canopy: We reforest the stream banks with a diverse mix of native trees and shrubs. As they grow, their canopy creates cooling shade for the water and naturally prevents the return of invasive weeds.
•Stabilize Eroding Banks: Using bioengineering techniques with native plants and natural materials, we rebuild and strengthen the creek's banks to prevent harmful erosion and protect the surrounding land.
• Enhance In-Stream Habitat: We strategically place logs and boulders to recreate the natural pools, riffles, and hiding places that are critical for the survival of young salmon and other aquatic wildlife.
